Got an old XEON 54xx series processor with only 2-4 cores? With this simple trick you can activate up to 8 cores! Intel hates him!
PCem current now includes voodoo support!
It’s in the current source dump here.
I never had one back in the day, so I have to see if I can find glide for DOS and some kind of demo thing.
Considering Quake III is now reported to work, I guess I should just break down and install Windows ME or something equally horrible.
William Gibson, turns 66 today
What can I say, one of the most influential authors of my misspent youth.
As always, if you’ve never checked out Neuromancer, then by all means do so.
VMware releases version 6 of ESX
I’m still running 5.5 at the office, so I guess it’s a matter of hooking up a monitor, dumping my VMs, and trying the upgrade and hoping it doesn’t destroy everything…
You can download it here, for free as in beer.
SEGA exits the console market
And if that isn’t crazy enough, they rebranded themselves as SEGA Games.
No, really.
SEGA used to stand for SErvice, GAmes, so now they’ve just re-named themselves Service Games Games. Â I guess it hails back to Windows 2000 being built on Windows New Technology, Technology.
But consoles are in decline, mobile phones and PC is where the market is, so it’s no surprise. Â The only other question is how many more times am I going to end up paying for Altered Beast, Phantasy Star II, and various genesis games.
Leonard Nimoy passed away.
To say that Star Trek influenced many nerds of today is a massive understatement. Â From the over estimating engineer, the surly physician, the cocky captain to the logical science officer the show had everything that children of all ages could not only appreciate, but aspire to be.
It was sad news to wake up to find that Leonard had passed from complications with his pulmonary disease.  Even though he quit smoking some 30 years ago it simply wasn’t enough.
We are fortunate in this digital age where we can celebrate his life’s works, and remember him for the role that made him a world recognized icon.
Indeed a role model to many has departed to that final frontier.
Leonard Nimoy was 83.
MPW for OSX
Maybe in time for the Chinese New Year?
So yeah I’ve got this extra copy of KOTOR kicking around and I should do some kind of giveaway or contest or something. Â As a matter of fact looking at steam I have a few extra bobs and ends…. Any good suggestions?
Also for anyone who keeps up on current events and posts, you have exactly 12 hours left to partake in the humble bundle to get Star Wars KOTOR for ‘name your own price’…
Which means you could score it for as low as say, $1 USD right now. Â Personally I wanted Dark Forces as I haven’t played that one in ages. Â The rest I already have, so here we are.
While it’s a great game IMHO, it is prone to some weird crashes like the cut scenes trying to change to unsupported resolutions, hardware shadow issues, and the like.  But with it’s recent ports to both iOS, and Android this game will certainly be around for quite some time.
It’s a shame there won’t be a KOTOR3.
New and exciting browser, Vivaldi
I finally found the download link for Vivaldi!
It looks pretty promising, from the people who brought us Opera. Â I’d encourage you to check it out!
Bringing back the WinZork demo via jsDOSBox
So with all the excitement with jsDOSBox it was about time I tried to get something from my old java dosbox stuff running again.
As a quick note, as of right now, you cannot boot into a disk image… Nor can you really run bat files, or any kind of drivers beforehand. Â It’s basically either use a script that adds files one by one, or use an image file which gets mounted, and you run your exe/com file from that.
So here we go, back again is the old Fortran Dungeon (zork) compiled with QuickC for Windows, running on the working model version of Windows 3.0.
For anyone interested my old post about this Fortran/Zork adventure is here.
