So I received an interesting tip, talking about the latest Qemu version, when it was mentioned that it isn’t the hardware that is at fault with Netware not running, but rather something in the emulated CPU.
Because, get this, Novell Netware runs in KVM.
I was taken back, all this time I thought it was something in the -M isapc definition that broke, but it’s the CPU! Â I even rebuilt Qemu with the TCG interpreter, and it too breaks. Â I even went one more crazy step, and installed with the ancient isadisk controller, and NE2000 on the ISA bus, and it works!
So for now my old copy of Netware I bought a million years ago lives in the cloud!
“So for now my old copy of Netware I bought a million years ago lives in my butt!” I love cloud-to-butt.
We should setup an IPX network. You have the emulated cisco stuff to make it possible.
I forgot about that chrome extension… lol
I guess we could build a global ipx network… the only question is what would we use to shuffle bits?
call the server buttvax 😉
ewww!
It’s not in the cloud, it’s in my butt!
also getting us an ircd!
I thought about an ircd, but … I don’t want it getting that overwhelmed it is SIMH afterall… but you can kinda leech an ircroom wherever….
it built but bus errored out.
lots of stuff is… finicky, mostly with linking.
if you are trying anything modren, then yeah.
Also I don’t think I’ll leave it up but…
$ telnet fragready 4423

Although may as well enable tcp and use that for file management.
Dynagen/Dynamips support network link over UDP tunnelling… As long as both sides can open a UDP port it really is quite simple to setup.
We could even to PPTP or OpenVPN, with static IP’s and again to the dynagen/dynamips thing. Another possibility is to alter the HecNET source code, to do IPX/SPX instead of DecNET.
There is all kinds of things we can do…. 😉
i’ll see if I can provide us a NEXTSTEP server 😉
I should load it on KVM and see if it works… on the latest Qemu it gives lots of disk timeouts, which feels like netware, dying
