Hot off the compiler….
http://vpsland.superglobalmegacorp.com/install/qemu-0.12.3.zip
I even remembered to strip the exe’s so it’s WAY smaller then the other versions….
Also for those *ONLY* interested in x86 emulation (ie regular PC) I’ve created a far smaller archive here, that only contains the pc emulator.
I figure the amount of people that run the non x86 stuff is few & far between.
The MIPS version runs NT 4.0 perfectly find… there is still the NVRAM/clock mishap, but it does full screen toggles great!
I just tested the floppy emulation on the i386 emulator, and Xenix will now install… You have to hard code the install to a 3 1/2" HD floppy (device 2,60) but it works!
This version of Qemu is certainly looking up!
you mean Xenix doesn't support hard drives?
No Xenix supports hard drives, its the floppy density detection that is all fucked up…
Also I see that once Xenix 386 was released this was the biggest thing to hit the old Soviet Union… Or so some people say.
Being from Soviet Union I must say I don't share this point of view.
At least in Siberia DOS, OS/2, Netware and VAX OSes ruled the World. After earlier betas of Chicago, most of DOS and consequently Netware installations were replaced with Win95.
Never saw Xenix. It was like a legend – "there is a Unix from Microsoft".
Hmm that's interesting… I've found some mentions about it being the backbone of the old UUCP network… I'll have to find the article, but of course I simply have to rely on what I can find as I wasn't there…!
I found this UUCP map….
http://ru.arf.ru/Svid/iga_app.html
with 'DOS' appearing 51 times, vs Xenix appearing 12 times.
Also I read somewhere that it was 'policy' that if the software wasn't sold in the soviet union, even the government would pirate it? it seems I can't post those annoying long google book links….
