I hope that is a 100-240VAC switching unit. Can you isolate the power supply and turn it on with a dummy load? (dead but spinning HDs work best). I wouldn’t be surprised if its a dead short from something like a bad cap or three.

I have a 220v to 110v step-down. I’ve used it with a bunch of Sony Japan only stuff without issue. I think the caps are just tired and old. Removing the old psu is a chore though. Apparently the last screw holding it in place is only reachable once you full dismantle the other side.
The good news is that it does have a 1mb expansion board, so it does have 2mb of ram!
