					<description><![CDATA[I&#039;m interested in the graphics card in your PS/2. Does it have the Inmos Color Palette chip, or Music Semiconductor? I was very involved with the chips from both vendors. One big difference, if you updated the palette RAM at random times on the Inmos chip, there were snowflakes on the display, while the Music chip didn&#039;t. This is documented in the VGA manual, because IBM went with Inmos for the original design. The Music chip came out later.]]></description>

Yeah it’s pretty much what I had figured.  I wasn’t sure if I should get the i960 super ultra cachelord card as I figure it’ll suffer the exact same issue.

The overhead of the caching controller is likely the cause of the slowdown you see. Most of the speed advantage is gone when you have a drive with practically zero seek time and transfers data well above what period hard drives did (the flash memory is faster than the RAM in the machine!).]]></description>
