Wow (pardon the pun). Running a 16 bit Windows app on 32-bit Windows NT on non-x86 architecture. The mind boggles at how many moving parts coordinate to make that happen.

Equally amazing is getting an ancient R3000 NT build running now. Kudos to Jeff!

Wow I bet there must be a million amazing stories of NT back in that era!

I guess you've seen the MIPS 3000 build that Jeff had had kicking around, and people on the internet not only made an emulator for the unseen R3000 machine, but also built firmware to boot it?

As for the CD and it's origins I'm not sure I only had bought a CD-ROM years later from someone who got one at the 1991 Comdex event. Those early NT years are the stuff of legend. Like they really seem to be a lot more legend!

Thanks!

I stumbled across this page today, and frankly I'm speechless.

I wrote the hack-o-rama dual-boot OS2LDR over lunch one day. It was a few dozen lines of assembly language. Windows NT was in its infancy and relied on a modified OS/2 loader to bootstrap the system. My little loader got in between the boot sector and the real boot loader, prompting for a boot choice.

I knew a handful of people that used it briefly until NT had its own legit loader. I'm shocked that it ever saw the light of day outside Microsoft Building 2.
