At first things were ‘fine’ on Catalina, but I’m now getting these “no successful checkins from com.apple.WindowServer” all the time. I thought it was GPU related as I was pushing it pretty hard, and when it crashed out, I opened it up and it was HOT. So I had to download one of those fan utilities and push the thing to 100% which sure helped with the cooling but sadly not with the crashing.

This thing will crash just staring at the desktop with nothing (user based) running. WOW.

I was looking this morning on YouTube for a video on disassembly and cleaning and the autocomplete instead went to disappointed.

Seems kind of appropriate.

Although, physically it’s a nice portable machine. Maybe it is the Operating System.

Winevdm works in reactos so I’m sure that it’ll work in crossover (you might need to remove the wine win16 dlls because of the name conflict).

Crossover for catalina creates ldt entries to make the 32-bit segments it needs. https://marc.info/?l=wine-devel&m=157610999725233&w=2 Possibly macos doesn’t permit 16-bit code segments due to the stack pointer leakage problem that espfix is for in linux.

It certainly opens up the world for it. Amazingly it seems few people have 64bit their applications making OS X far more of an island.

At this point its more likely Apple just wants out of the PC business. Can’t blame them, even the worst selling iWhatever absolutely crushes Mac sales, which honestly have always been incredibly weak.

I guess it was amazing that they worked on older OS X at all…

I haven’t tried WineVDM under wine yet, but it being 100% synthetic CPU emulation ought to work. I think.

I didn’t know that 16-bit programs wouldn’t work on Wine/Mac/Catalina. I guess I need to hurry up and make an official release of Boxedwine on Mac since it can emulate 16-bit just fine.
