I wonder if you could lift VCC on the chip and place a resistor in between to drop voltage – it doesn’t make sense that such a simple chip is getting so ludicrously hot – I just wonder if it is being run at too high a voltage?

Something may be fishy on your part.

However some pins on the power connector are 60C, visibly browned too! Yours seems fine.

A lot of the heatsinks for the raspberry pis come with standard 3m double sided tape, which is not suited for this application

Sure it got quite hot but it never had an issue! Miss that little thing, even if it was super slow.

The stock fan is pretty slow and also after so many years probably even slower due to build up of dust, etc. I think high flow fan keeps it much cooler.

Which one is the heat death chip? Perhaps I missed something. I put radiators on all the chips that generate heat.
