Actually, when I wrote Archive.org "should" have a copy of it, I meant it *has* one. If you search for "winview", you won't find an explicit entry in the search results. However, you will find two software collection CDs. One of them has it, although it refers to it as a "multitasking shell for win3x".

I thought it had another name or was an update for MultiUser 2.0 but I'd been looking for ages for it.

Sadly I don't see anything under WinView

Maybe one day it'll show up

Hi, thank you for the post. Since you covered Citrix Multiuser and South Beach (a beta of WinFrame) in your blog, maybe you would like to also cover the missing link between the two a.k.a. WinView. Basically, it is multiuser OS/2 capable of running Windows 3.1 sessions in 386 enhanced mode over serial and over Novell networks. archive.org should have a copy of it.

Well I've been working on that actually, since all these old beta versions of OS/2 come with a link386 its possible to link a gcc kit I built. I'ts nowhere near ready for prime time, but I'm working on something!

Thanks, I'll have to give that a shot, otherwise I was going to try to hack something into the source code. And of course this would let me get it online.

Perhaps you could get some resiliency and maybe even better handling of connections using com0com and possibly com2tcp? com0com is a Windows driver that gives you one or more pairs of virtual serial ports that emulate null modem cables (or you can change the virtual wiring to connect up the control lines however you wish IIRC). Then if Bochs and DOSBox can both use a serial port on the host you can probably get real carrier detect, etc. Otherwise you can probably use com2tcp to glue the emulators to the virtual serial ports in a way that doesn't tie their lifetimes together so much, because the serial ports will both remain even when nothing is connected to them.

You might need to use the configuration tool to rename the ports from their default names (CNCA0 and CNCB0 IIRC) to COMn if some tools are fussy about the device names they use.
