In reply to The Flash. I am unaware of any... All I can find is patches to go up, not down. Although I guess with a binary diff and original DooM 2 diskettes it should be possible to make one..

In reply to bamdad. You're upset that they're selling a game for real money? What? I get that it's old but it's still a game. Why shouldn't you pay for it? It's almost been 20 years since Ocarina of Time was released. Should they be handing it out for free?

In reply to Vorknkx. It was a minor annoyance when I wanted to setup my MIDI gear to play DooM, but I hoard old crap, and was able to find the right files in no time. I can see, for others it not being as easy.

Indeed, omitting the setup program from an old DOS game was a pretty silly thing to do – for most old games, many settings (incl. sound card, key bindings and some other) could ONLY be changed from the setup. So thus Steam basically cripples Doom, robbing its customers from the freedom to customize the game to their liking.

DOSBox apparently supports GUS emulation. I’ve had it working before, it’s sort of a pain in the ass to do, but it’s possible. Maybe I can post my DOSBox dir with all of that ready to go and with the special doom WAD that had a custom ULTRASND.INI to take even more advantage of the GUS.

yeah it is kind of crazy… bu people will pay for all kinds of crap but take what they can.

what I hate is buying it over and over… Even ‘collections’ I don’t know how many legit copies of ‘lost treasures of infocom’ I’ve bought over the years, 4? 5?.. and worse I bought the games back in the 80’s.

it still frustrates me to no end that they are selling near-20-years-old software for actual money. that’s what i hate about gog too, but at least there you usually get some nice artwork and manuals for your money..
