  1. Personal opinion: Don’t use Apache.

I use Apache because of SVN and want to not do it anymore (in favor of lighttpd/nginx).

Also, you’re running an UNSUPPORTED VERSION OF DEBIAN.
    Server: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny16 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.9 OpenSSL/0.9.8g mod_apreq2-20051231/2.6.0 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.0

Just saying that you should upgrade to Squeeze.

    • yeah I guess that explains why apt-get update nolonger works… time to backup then upgrade…

It is kind of sad that even in 2012, a user process can basically bring the system down.

      • It’s also sad that I have to run Ubuntu on my server, even though I keep on trying to get Squeeze to boot.

On the other hand, you switched VPS providers AND got Squeeze. 😉

        • well.. I’m running this at home which isn’t all that ideal.. lol This is more so to make sure I know what I’m doing so I can replicate these changes onto a new install… Once I figure that out … lol!

        • well I formatted my VPS, installed debian 6, updated to 6.0.5 and that seemed to work well.. Next step is to transfer all my website stuff… but the blog should be up now… my residential is 10 down, 1 up so… this will take a long long while… lol

        • 🙂

And also, I managed Debian wheezy to install on my “server”. So far, no issues. (Actually, acting better than Ubuntu.)

          • seems like a good weekend for upgrades… I’ve got to also say, rsync is pretty damned great for xfering data back & forth…!

But it’ll take a while to get all my stuff over…
