There is no GUI for NetWare 3.12

The first thing to do is backup those disks, by making disk images of them!

If your CPU failed, those disks probably aren’t all that ‘long’ for the world.

Since NetWare can be run under emulation, your best bet is to go that route.

If they are SCSI there used to be USB to SCSI adapters although they are incredibly old and most likely have 32bit drivers making this a challenge to use, most likely needing you to install Windows 2000/XP into a VM with USB passthru support (VMWare Player….) to make raw disk images of them. Or if your ‘new hardware machine’ is capable of such.

Conflicts you are going to fight are with patches, and network adapters. Possibly storage as well.

Backup those disks!, Image them!

Hello,
Our old NetWare 3.12 server failed because of CPU failure, I have launched the same hard disks in another system and it boot to console mode of course after giving some warning messages.
Since it is an old OS, I assume that it should be such console mode OS like DOS but my colleagues say that it was going automatically to GUI mode and so it is not working in their opinion.
Before calling its users I need consultation.
Could you please confirm me if by migrating HDDs to another PC then Novell still works or not!
And if I’m lucky, is there any command for getting into GUI mode if there is any?!

i have an old pc that has a network drive by netware 3.12 in dos 6.22 . i backup hard disk by microsoft disk2vhd and now have an vhd file. i add vhd file in virtualbox and dos successfully boot. i can input server command, but when i input server command show this error:

volume sys could not be loaded
some or all volume segments cannot be located

why this error show? netware was successfully work in my old pc but in virtualbox does not work,why?

I’m sorry, I never did get around to that… I didn’t think anyone still ran Netware… Well outside of the .gov that is.

I’ll try to coble something up, as I see the newer versions of Qemu support the TUN/TAP interface from OpenVPN, kind of rendering my old libpcap patches obsolete.. But then I still like libpcap!

Hey, great post. I used your instructions a few days ago to install 3.12 and it runs fine. Can’t figure out the networking portion though. Did you ever publish a followup post to this? Would really appreciate some tips…
